Advanced Diplomacy and Protocol Training for the Ministry of Sport and Recreation

In the contemporary world, proper protocol, manners, business etiquette and acceptable codes of decorum within an organization are critical in order to grow Positive First Impressions to customers and stakeholders. The Ministry requested the Institute of Diplomacy to facilitate the current Advanced Diplomacy, Business Protocol, Etiquette and Professional Grooming Training to place it in line for efficient service delivery through additional capacity to efficiently develop and implement policies and programmes to accomplish its goals and adhere to its Mission Statement.  The 4-Day Programme took place at the new Ambassador Hotel in Harare, from 1- 4 October 2017.

The purpose of the Training was to enhance teamwork; protocol functioning of the Ministry as it asserts centre role as a sport coordination centre of Zimbabwe and rendezvous for sport links between Zimbabwe and the world at large. It focused on Diplomacy; Negotiation Skills; Diplomatic, Corporate and Social Protocol; codes of decorum and official engagements for public servants; how to flawlessly manage events; how to perform daily duties with dignity, honest, refinement, respect and poise; how to handle difficult clients, bosses and co-workers; Efficient Minute taking – who, when and how; Effective Public Speaking, Speech Writing and Presentation Skills; Professional Grooming and Deportment; Image Management; Business and Social Etiquette; Office Practice; Diplomacy-Its role in service delivery and Effective Negotiation Skills.

The Training also covered Communication Skills, Customer Service Etiquettes as well as a Synopsis of Leadership skills in diverse environments. Participants were also equipped with requisite Stress Management Techniques for Civil Servants operating in a challenging Socio-economic environment.

The overall objective was to create a polished Civil Servant geared to play a critical role in making a difference through dedication and the ability to influence the working environment. What the participants gained through the Training will make a difference for the impact of service delivery of the Ministry.
