Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy Attends Rwanda’s 32nd Liberation Day Commemoration

The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID) had the honour of attending the 32nd Rwanda Liberation Day (Kwibohora 32) celebrations hosted by His Excellency James Musoni, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Zimbabwe, at the Hyatt Regency Harare on 6 July 2026.

The commemorative event brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Zimbabwe, senior Government officials, representatives from the corporate sector, the private sector, academia, development partners and other distinguished guests in celebrating Rwanda’s remarkable journey of liberation, reconciliation, and national transformation.

The Guest of Honour, Professor Amon Murwira, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, applauded the longstanding and cordial relations between Zimbabwe and Rwanda. In his remarks, he reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, highlighting the enduring friendship between the two nations.

In his keynote address, Ambassador James Musoni reflected on Rwanda’s painful history, recalling the country’s struggle against the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the immense sacrifices that led to the nation’s liberation. He emphasized that, under the visionary leadership of President Paul Kagame, Rwanda has emerged as a beacon of peace, unity, reconciliation, economic transformation, and good governance. The Ambassador noted that the spirit of national unity has enabled Rwanda to rebuild institutions, promote inclusive development, and become one of Africa’s leading examples of resilience and sustainable progress.

The event served as a reminder of the importance of peace, reconciliation, visionary leadership and regional cooperation in advancing Africa’s development agenda.

The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy values its continued engagement with diplomatic missions accredited to Zimbabwe and remains committed to promoting international understanding, diplomatic dialogue, and stronger bilateral and multilateral relations through active participation in diplomatic events.
